This is a hidden feature of the i30. You indeed can trigger the chord changes with a MIDI accordian (and other midi devices). This is explained in Page 9 of the i30 Parameter Guide. Read topic 7-3a explaining how you can assign the Chord-2 and Chord-3 MIDI channels to correlate to the chord and bass buttons of your MIDI accordian. Cool function. Please realize that you need to hit at least 3 meaningful notes with your chord/bass combo to trigger a chord on the i30. However, with a MIDI pedal board, how do you hit 3 notes? You have only two feet! Korg took this scenario into consideration while designing the i30. You can trigger one note chords on the i30. Press the [ARR PLAY] button. Press the [MENU] button. Press the [Global Page] button and go to the [Options] tab Set the Lower Chord Recognition Mode to One Finger. Next, go to the [MIDI Ch] tab and set the Chord Channel = 1 I am assuming your MIDI Pedal Board is set to transmit on Channel = 1 Set Chord-2 and Chord-3 to OFF You can read about it on Page 1 of the i30 Parameter Guide. Thats all there is to it. The moment you press the C key on your pedal board, the i30 will start playing the arrangement on C Major. Try pressing F and G to get F Major and G Major. To get minor chords, you would have to press two keys. If you sit on a stool, you can use both feet to trigger these 2 note chords. To trigger a C Minor, you would hit the C key and *any* black key to the left. To trigger a C seventh, you would hit the C key and *any* white key to the left. Thats all you get :) Major, Minor and Seventh chords. If any of you guys have found out other combinations please let us know. Once you build your expertise on triggering these 2 note chords with your feet, switch the Lower Chord Recognition Mode to "Easy". Believe it or not, some organ players can trigger 3 note chords with their feet. They use the heel and toe of the same foot to hit two notes and augment that with a third note from the other foot. The "Easy" mode gives you access to a larger library of chords. I would never have thought this was humanly possible until it was demonstrated to me. The i30 is a very versatile instrument. Tapas. Part 2: Hi Glen, Thanks for pointing out the issue with using an unused channel for chord changes. Sometimes you get unexpected results if the MIDI channels for the different parts are not unique. It is safe to always select an unused MIDI channel for Chord-1 and set the transmit channel of the external MIDI pedal board/controller to match it. You can also trigger Fill-1 or Fill-2 with your pedal board. [ARR PLAY] [MENU] [GLOBAL] Select the [Velocity] tab Set Velocity Control to either Fill-1 or Fill-2 Now if you hit your pedal hard enough it will trigger a Fill-In as well as change the chord. It is a nifty feature. Nice to have your pedal board control the chord changes as well as throw in a fill whenever you get the urge. Tapas.
