1) On your PC, make a "review form" (I used Excel) that has enough rows and columns to write the style address (say C26), style name, your evaluation of the style and any other information you feel appropriate. Also, the form should have blanks at the top to identify the SET file name and the manufacturer and keyboard model from which the SET originated. 2) Print out a stack of blank evaluation forms, get yourself a stack of floppies and get ready for some long nights. 3) Now, the idea is to load SETs one at a time, listen to each style, write down the information about the style and your evaluation of the style. In 7000+ styles there will likely be hundreds, or even thousands, that you hate, or are not your type of music, or whatever. If you are like me, many SETs will likely contain at least a few "jewels" that you want to keep. Mark them accordingly. 4) Now, before you overwrite the floppies with new SETs, you need to transfer the styles you want to keep into custom SETs that you keep on your hard drive or separate floppies. For this, you need to create a "blank" or "VOID" SET. 5) Copy the i30 PLOAD SET (the SET that came with your i30) to your HD or floppy and rename it VOID.SET (or some such). 6) Load this SET into your i30, go to STYLE EDIT mode and perform an ERASE STYLE on every style from C11 through C68. This clears out the user style memory. Now, save this Void SET back to disk and keep it as the source file for your "Custom" SETs. 7) Make a copy of your VOID SET and rename it ZAH_1.SET (or some such). This will be your first custom SET. Load this set into your i30. 8) Insert a floppy that contains styles you want to keep. Go to DISK mode, open the SET folder, open the .STY folder, open the "BLOCK" folder that contains the style you want to keep, select the style, then select LOAD from the upper righthand \menu, then hit the pop-up menu in the middle of the screen and select the destination address, say C11 the first time around, then hit OK. (this loads your first style to address C11). 9) Continue loading styles until you have loaded all your favorites from that SET. Remember, you must load to the next available address each time, or you will overwrite earlier styles that you just loaded. (Another point. Each block can hold UP TO 4 styles. However, each block is memory limited, so if you have 1 or more large styles (memory hogs) in a block, that block will hold fewer than 4 styles, maybe as few as 1. In this case you will get an "Insufficient Memory" message. If so, just continue loading styles in the NEXT block). 10) Now, you will want to load the companion ARRANGEMENT that goes with each STYLE. Back up to the BLOCK folder, back up to the STYLE folder, and then select and open the ARR folder. Select the ARRANGEMENT that goes with the first STYLE you loaded. Select LOAD from the upper righthand menu, then hit the pop-up menu in the middle of the screen and select the destination address that corresponds with the companion STYLE, then hit OK. (It is not essential that the arrangement AND style be loaded into the same address (say C11), but it sure is less confusing in the long run. Continue loading arrangements until you have all the arrangement/style pairs in your custom SET. 11) Now, go to Arranger Mode, select Arrangement C11, hit the STYLE select button and select Style C11 (both arrangement AND style should read the same address, C11 in this case, so they are paired up). Make any editing changes to the arrangement that you want to make the arrangement/style pair sound to your liking (programs, volume balance, tempo, etc, etc). Now go to the upper righthand menu and WRITE ARRANGEMENT. This saves your arrangement edits to the i30's INTERNAL memory. Do step 11 for EACH arrangement/style pair you have loaded. 12) FINALLY, and VERY important. SAVE your newly edited custom SET to disk, otherwise it will be overwritten the next time you load a new SET. Now, each time you want to add new arrangement/style pairs to your custom SET, load your custom SET into the i30 and continue adding arrangement/style pairs to your SET at the NEXT available address. Continue adding styles until the user style memory is full, then begin with your next SET, say ZAH_2.SET This description will probably totally confuse you because I have not covered minute details. If so, respond with additional questions and I'll try again. Regards, Chuck
